Schedule:        Day Shift        Unlimited Original Full-Time Perm.

FTE:                1.00

Duties:             Under direct supervision of the Urban Forestry Coordinator in a training capacity, this position covers the entire state focusing on proving technical assistance for the Urban and Community Forestry Program.  Which includes planning and implementing urban forestry programs to assist municipal governments with the planting, maintenance, management and protection of trees on public property.  Additionally, to research, analyze and develop technical material and training programs related to arboricultural topics to include: tree planting, tree maintenance, community tree ordinances, and other issues to support the urban forestry program and other duties as assigned.
                        ***One vacancy, also being posted as a Forester 2 and Forester 3 based on experience.***


Requirements: Training: Associate Degree in a Forest Technology program recognized by the Society of American Foresters or a Bachelor’s degree in a Forestry program accredited by the Society of American Foresters.
                        Special Requirements:  Must possess strong communications skills and work effectively with diverse groups.  Must have a current license as a Registered Professional Forester or a Registered Forestry Technician or in the process of obtaining professional licensure.  Must have a current Arborist Certification from the International Society of Arboriculture or be able to obtain certification within one year from the date of employment.  Must be licensed or eligible to operate a motor vehicle in West Virginia.  Must take and pass a physical examination within the first six months of employment and submit to annual follow-up examinations.  Failure to pass the initial examination will result in termination of employment.  Failure to pass a subsequent examination may result in reassignment.  Positions must meet the qualifications for and become a Special Natural Resources Police Officer at the earliest opportunity following employment and maintain this commission throughout the period of employment in the position.  This requirement may be waived at the discretion of the State Forester.
